Paper Mache Jack-o-Lanterns

We made paper mache jack-o-lanterns in two of my classes for the first time this year.



Although it was quite easy, it was also VERY messy and took more time than I had thought. Of course I planned to do it over two classes, because it takes at least a full day to dry, but the layering of the newspaper took almost a full class, as did painting the balls orange.

All our hands were such a mess that I couldn't take any pictures while covering the balloons in strips of newspaper soaked in flour/water glue. But, after drying, the balls looked like this:



Then we painted them orange...



...and glued on cut out face pieces...



And there you have it.
I think they turned out pretty cool
