11/30(土）上智大学で行われた 全国高校生英語弁論大会【ジョン・ニッセル杯】に
長男が出場し、親ばかDaddy & Mommyは応援に行ってきました。
こういう類、今まで経験は無くて全くの初挑戦だったんですが、
ナ・ナ・ナント！！！
優勝しましたよ～♪
キャーーーーー！！！
グランパの事で元気が出なかった私たち、
超元気出ました！！！
お父さんアメリカ人だし、当然・・・なんて思う方も一杯いらっしゃると思いますが、
長男のテーマはまさにソレです。
「Born Half」 ハーフとして生まれ
ハーフだからって、みんながみんな英語がペラペラなわけはないし
ハーフだからって、みんながみんな背が高くて金髪で青い目で・・ってなこともないし
家で日本語ばっかりしゃべる（元）黒い髪で背がちっこいアメリカ人のお父ちゃんと
ちっこい普通～の日本人のお母ちゃんの元に生まれた
ちっこいボクみたいな人間もいるんだよ。
みたいな内容です。
周りの先生方、お友達、家族の応援、支えがあってこその優勝だと思います。
それを決して忘れないように、これからもいろいろな事に頑張ってほしいです。
でも、やっぱり、本人の頑張りは称えたいですね

We are soooooooooooooooooooo proud of you.
As parents we are so proud and happy for him. Not just for winning the contest, but also for having the opportunity to meet such a fine group of mature and intelligent, English speaking Japanese teenagers. The 21 finalists included several "double" nationalities like himself and many returnees who have had the chance to live overseas for years. Not only did they all have natural level speaking abilities and perfect pronunciation, but interesting topics and serious subjects to speak about. It was great to see them all interacting and becoming friends at the reception after the contest was over. I hope they stay in touch (of course they're all on Facebook) and maybe even meet up again in a couple years when they're in university.
